Guided, string by string
Pick your instrument and it walks the strings in order, naming each one and telling you which way to turn.
Knows twelve instruments
Violin, viola, cello and double bass; guitar and ukulele; flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon and saxophone.
Handles transposing instruments
A clarinet's written C sounds a B flat. Tune shows the note you read, and measures the pitch you sound.
Accurate on low notes
A cello's low C and a bass low E defeat many tuners. Tune detects the pitch, not the loudest harmonic.
Hear the target
Tap to sound the note you are tuning to, for when your ear is a better guide than your eyes.
Any reference pitch
440 by default, 442 for orchestras that tune sharp, 415 for baroque — or anything in between.

In practice
For the things a tuner usually assumes you know
You don't know which string is which
Tune names them and works through them in order, with a note on where each sits on the instrument. Play, and it tells you whether to tighten or loosen.
A string is badly out
A string tuned nearly a semitone flat reads as a different note entirely on a chromatic tuner. Tune measures against the string you're aiming for, so it says you're flat of G rather than showing you an F sharp.
Tuning to other players
Set the reference pitch to match the ensemble — 442 is common, and picking the oboe sets it for you.
You'd rather tune by ear
Tap the speaker to sound the target note and match it. The meter is still there when you want to check.
